The new 3D TVs are somewhat different than the 2D TVs that are already out. They have built-in transmitters that will allow the 3D glasses to sync with the picture. Another TV requirement is that it be at least a 120 Hz refresh rate. Not all TVs have that. There are kits that will be coming out that will allow capable older TVs to be able to handle the new 3D, but they are not out yet. No word on when those will be available.
3D glasses will be around 0-0 to start and Samsung and Sony have them available now.
Samsung has just come out with the first 3D TVs. You can get info at www.BestBuy.com on cost for all of the equipment.
Other manufacturers will be coming out with their TVs over the next several months. Walmart just announced that they will be selling 3D TVs this coming holiday season.

Question by dreadraptor85: What’s the difference between HDTVs with 60Hz refresh rate and 120Hz? What does that mean?
Is it like frame rate in video games?

Best answer:

Answer by jbrizzle90
No, frame rates are how many frames per second the show was recorded in. Typical shows and movies run at about 30 fps from what I see. Live recordings are sometimes recorded at 60. It’s a lot faster and smoother. Refresh rate is how fast your monitor or tv refreshes. According to world of warcraft “higher rates flicker less”

I really dont know what that means but changing my refresh rate on my monitor doesnt do anything. At least I havent noticed any change yet.

Question by Idolmaker: What’s the difference between blu ray disc and a standard dvd?
I have just aquired a large screen tv and I will watch lots of movies on it but should I purchase a blu ray disc player or should I continue with my dvd player? I don’t want to replace my library of dvds.

I can barely see the difference. It’s a better quality movie. I guess if you want to spend the 0 for the player it would be worth it. FYI, I blue ray player will also play your DVD Movies.

What is the difference between 1360×768 and 1366×768 resolutions on LCD HDTVs?

Question by Thrawn77: What is the difference between 1360×768 and 1366×768 resolutions on LCD HDTVs?
I currently have a Samsung DLP 1080p nightmare that causes about a quarter of a second of lag when playing games on my XBox 360 (yes, the lag is even noticable when I’m viewing at 1080p). Anyway, I’m looking to get a 37″ LCD TV just for gaming. My primary concern is that my TV be able to display the output of my 360 without any upscaling of video. The 360 naturally outputs at 1360×768 from VGA, but I’m concerned that almost every LCD TV I see only offers 1366×768. Would a TV have to upscale 1360×768 input to 1366×768 if that is the native resolution?

Answer by James A
I have a 1366X768 tv hook up to the XBOX 360 via VGA. I just had to stretch the image 3 pixels in each direction using the tv. You could leave it unstretched and from more than a foot away you wouldn’t even notice you were missing 6 rows of pixels on the edge.

Peace,
James

What Is the difference between Blu-Ray and HD DVD?

Question by Joel: What Is the difference between Blu-Ray and HD DVD?
I just got a PS3 and I do NOT have an HDTV, so if I bought a Blu-Ray/HD DVD, would it still sound like an HD DVD without and HDTV? Plus, what is the difference between Blu-Ray and HD DVD? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Alan S
If you do not have a HD TV then there will be no difference between a normal dvd and a HD/Blu Ray dvd. You need a HDTV to see the difference in quality , And i have to say a HDTV with a PS3 makes one hell of a difference , everything is much clearer and brighter and colourfull , and thats at 720p.

The main difference between HDDVD and Blu-Ray would be the fact that HDDVDs store up to 30gbs and Blu-Ray stores up to 50gb and can be used for games aswell , They are also created by different companys , Toshiba and Hitachi created HD DVD , Sony and Philips created Blu-Ray , Different film companys are support the different formats with only 1 or 2 supporting them both which means the range of films that appear on Blu-Ray will vary to the range of Films that appear on HD DVD , Blu-Ray would probably have more of a choice of films since more film companys are supporting it.

Can you tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz HDTVs?

Question by Dave: Can you tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz HDTVs?
I’m looking to buy a new TV, around 40″ 1080p for gaming, movies, and sports. It seems you can’t buy a 120hz LCD HDTV for under 0 but is it really worth it?

Also, do you notice the difference much between the generic brands and higher end brands?

Thanks in advance to those giving good advice!

Answer by Jason
Ok, the difference between 60hz and 120hz is the refresh rate. The human eye can’t tell the difference between the two, because after 60hz (which is how many times the screen is refreshed entirely in one second), you wouldn’t be able to see any picture quality failures (like black lines across the screen shifting). The higher refresh rates are there so that if the TV has a slight problem that affects the refresh rate, it has some leverage to give you the best quality without interference. Short term: higher hz = insurance for picture quality.

In answering your questions, I would personally say that it really isn’t worth the extra money unless there are additional features to go along with it, like additional hookups in the back, etc. Generic brands are just about as good as some of the higher end brands. I have an Insignia brand, and it is just as good as a Sony or Samsung, but relatively cheaper. If you’re using the TV for high picture quality gaming that is really intensive, I would suggest the higher (120hz) TV. Otherwise, stick with something simple. It’s not often you’ll get a screen disturbance from a 60hz TV.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Why is there big price differences between HDTVs?

Question by hosa: Why is there big price differences between HDTVs?
I know Sony can be overpriced but i am talking in general, if they all are 1080p and they all have the same features and size why are some much more expensive than others? for example,at the store if i see two 32″ LCD HDTVs 1080p, but one is 2000$ and the other is 4000$, different brands, why does one have a better picture than the other? what are the other factors which make that difference other than the resolution? and does sony have hidden features or what?
professional technical answers please!

If the price range really is a LOT then the more expensive TV must have some sort of better technology( i.e. LED instead of LCD).

Question by TM0727: What is the difference between DVD and Blu-ray home theater system?
I was just wanted to know if the price is higher on the Blu-ray home theater system because of the Blu-ray player itself. Is there a difference in the quality of the sound produced? Or is it just the fact that one has is just a DVD player and the other is a Blu-ray player?
