Why do HDTVs still use infrared for their remote controls?

Question by 苗語: Why do HDTVs still use infrared for their remote controls?
Why not Bluetooth? Lately I’ve bought a 46″ Samsung LCD and I’ve been finding that the remote control hardly even works. It has to be perfectly pointing towards the bottom centre or somewhere. Using my PS3 blu-ray remote control is so easy when watching movies. To be honest, even my old SDTV remote control works better (on my old TV) than my Samsung LCD remote does… Why is that? Are other brands like this? Why can’t they just use bluetooth?

I agree, it should be bluetooth or 2.4ghz, make things a lot better, but people do not buy tvs for the remotes.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to buying a front-projection HDTV as compared to other HDTVs?

Question by Paul Johnson: What are the advantages and disadvantages to buying a front-projection HDTV as compared to other HDTVs?

Best answer:

Answer by themikejonas
Pros:

- you can’t get any flatter than front projection.
- your home theater can really look like a home theater.
- screen size is dictated by the size of the screen you’re projecting on, which can be larger than most plasmas or DLP’s.

Cons:

- your viewing environment will have to be a bit more controlled than with other HDTV’s; outside light leaking in is going to be more of a problem. Unless the room is really, really dim, your contrast ratio isn’t going to be as good as other TV’s (that is, blacks won’t look as black).
- a good HDTV projector is about as pricey as a plasma; you’ll also have to occasionally purchase bulbs, which can cost a few hundred each.
- you’ll have to figure out where and how to mount the projector and the screen.
- if you don’t have one already, you’ll probably have to invest in a sound system to connect the projector to.

Basically, if you’re going to have a real swank “home theater” setup, a projector is going to be a good option. But it may be hard to imagine firing up a 00 projector, pulling down the screen and drawing the blinds in your living room just to catch a Simpsons rerun.

Anyone have problems with Vizio HDTVs? I might be buy one because they actually look better than the others?

Question by rorybellows: Anyone have problems with Vizio HDTVs? I might be buy one because they actually look better than the others?
In the same price range anyway.. I was at Wal Mart an the Vizio brand TVs actually looked clearer and had less graininess than the other TVs. I know they are on the low end when it comes to price, but how about quality? Or is this an attempt by the store to make them look better than the others to move more of them?

Answer by AVDADDY
Great question! Vizio sells more HDTV’s in the U S than any other brand.
You are right to question the appearance on the sales floor. It is hard to get equally good signals to all displays. Many Vizios have received pretty good reviews, and are good values, they do not stand out in most picture quality comparisons. You get what you pay for.

Question by msumuel: Is there any way to increase HDMI connectivity with HDTVs?
I’m looking to purchase a 40″ HDTV but it only includes one HDMI input. I have an Xbox 360 and I’m looking to buy an Apple TV. It would be great if there’s some sort of connector so that I don’t have to disconnect one to use the other. Thanks for your help!

Q&A: whats the difference betweene 1080 i and 1080 p hdtvs?

Question by dpd2k2: whats the difference betweene 1080 i and 1080 p hdtvs?
looking to buy a 22inch hdtv. but some are 720 and some are 1080 i. i know the big screens are 1080 p . please help.

Best answer:

Answer by jbustamante3
the number represents the highest resolution the screen can produce for example 1080 means that the screen has 1920 pixels down and 1080 pixels across the screen, the i and the p is how the image is put on the screen i is interlaced and p is progressive, progressive is better because the image looks a lot smoother. 1080 is the highest resolution you can get right now

Question by Dok: Does anybody know when HDTVs are going to fall in price again?
Specifically, I’m looking to get a 52″-60″ HDTV LCD and I was just wondering if I should wait. I read in a recent consumer report that the prices may decline again this fall but haven’t heard anything else since. Can anyone validate this or possibly shed a little light on the subject? Thanks!

Answer by jjki_11738
There’s no question thatthey will continue to drop-particularly for the large sets like you’re interested in. In the short term, it’s likely thatthe best prices will be right after or before the holiday’s.

How do I compare HDTVs accurately?

Question by B-Lab: How do I compare HDTVs accurately?
It seems a lot of the statistics are not verified and often the in-store hookups leave plenty to be desired. What can I look for, or where can I look, to know I’ve made the best buy?

On the new HDTVs, what feature/spec indicates the speed that the tuner switches broadcast signals?

Question by julassie: On the new HDTVs, what feature/spec indicates the speed that the tuner switches broadcast signals?
How does this affect how quickly the TV changes channels? I am looking for how this feature/spec is stated on the packaging, IF the feature exists at all.

Best answer:

Answer by Roland L
I havent encounter such feature in a TV, cable box, and satellite boxes… HDTV tuners Built-in the TV set should switch faster. External tuners like the DTV converter box and cable set top boxes will need to overcome the input/output mismatch between the TV and the Box causing a slight delay. Some brands will have problems with the audio.
Lots of factors..
