A lot of my older dvds jump in my ps2 which I think is due to scratches. Are some dvd players better at playing very slightly scratched dvds and are some really sensitive to scratches?

What is a good universal video type for DVD players?

Question by : What is a good universal video type for DVD players?
What type of video can I burn to a DVD that will be playable with all DVD players (connected to TV)? What software should I use for burning?

Best answer:

Answer by =Q=
You can use Nero (a popular and more stable program) or just about any type of DVD Video software to burn your movies. This burns it into DVD format (which you will see with VOB and other files once it converts it). You can’t just place the video file on a disc to play in most DVD players because most DVD players do not recognize AVI etc.

Not all DVD players can play DVDs that you made yourself. DVD players recognize that it’s DVDRW or DVDR. However, not all are compatible and not all brands or models of DVDRs are compatible with DVD players. You have to experiment with the brand and model one but Sony and Memorex I found to be the better ones.

The DVD player itself sometimes won’t read it. This is because of the burning process. This is not something you can control. When they make, say a Star Wars DVD in a factory, they burn it differently. It’s burned and then the two plastic pieces are joined together. You are doing it afterwards, after the plastic pieces are put together. This is why DVDrs are only rated to last 5-10 years whilst factory-made movies are made to last at least 100 years.

Nero in my opinion is the best. If you can somehow get ahold of Nero 6 or 7, those were the better of the versions. Version 9 is okay but it could’ve been better. But it’s universal, easy to use and even has what most programs don’t have: To use the whole disc to give good quality for your DVD. Most programs will say you can still use some space before you burn your project with whatever quality setting they have, but they won’t make it better quality and not utilize that disc space.

DVD plays choppy and distorted on my computer but not in other players?

Question by kingimarsdottir: DVD plays choppy and distorted on my computer but not in other players?
I just got a new DVD and when I started to play it, it was playing very choppy and distorted. I wasn’t sure if the disk was damaged or if it was my computer, so I restarted and tried multiple players but it didn’t work, however, when tested, other DVD’s worked no problem. I also tried the DVD out in my sister’s computer and the DVD player for the TV and it worked fine there. Is there any way of fixing the way my computer plays this one DVD?

When you say “new dvd”, I’m guessing you mean like a store bought dvd with a movie on it like shrek or something and not a dvd with a movie burned on it with pc software.

I’d guess it’s the software your using to play the dvd. I’d try using vlc software (it’s a free download off internet) to play dvd and see if you still run into any issues or wmp (windows media player). If you run into problems with both, it’s likely your drive since the dvd plays well on other devices. If it plays well on vlc or wmp….then problem solved. I have run into this before with a dvd where it’ll play with issues on a laptop/pc dvd drive but when I try using different software to play it, it works fine.
