I have a Toshiba laptop. I was wondering if a blu ray disk would play on it.

If you have a blu-ray disc drive on your computer, then yes. But mostly only new and more expensive computers have that, so if you have bought a relatively cheap computer, you probably don’t.

But the best way to find out is to simply put a blu-ray disc into your computer and see if it would recognize it. If it does, then you can use blu-ray discs on it.

Your question isn’t very clear. What are you switching FROM? What are you using for surround sound? How are you connecting to the internet? Is the TV internet enabled? Are you connecting via an internet enabled bluray player?

Assuming that you have a surround sound amplifier and your TV is internet aware, you have to provide a path for the audio from your TV to your amplifier. What kind of path depends on the specific TV and the specific amplifier.

Typically flat screen TV’s have a digital audio output, and most surround sound amplifiers have digital audio inputs. Connect the two with the appropriate cable and you’re good to go, although you’ll still have to READ THE USER MANUAL for the surround sound system to figure out which sequence of buttons enable sound from the digital input. I know how to do it on my Onkyo receiver, but I’m sure its different for yours.

I can’t give you specifics, but I’ve been listening to a set of podcasts that deal with security over the internet and computing. It’s called Security Now!, and it’s headed up by a couple of people from the TechTV days, Leo Laporte and Steve Gibson of Gibson Research.

It’s a really good podcast, and deals alot with how DRM works in various situations(Vista’s DRM, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, AACS, etc. etc.)

Some good podcasts to note are:
http://www.twit.tv/sn75 – Vista DRM
http://www.twit.tv/sn73 – Next Gen. Copy Protection

But this site is great for general security-related knowledge presented in a layman’s language. Definitely Check it out.

Q&A: Will a standard HDMI cable work on a 3D tv with a 3D Blu Ray player?

Question by : Will a standard HDMI cable work on a 3D tv with a 3D Blu Ray player?
I just purchased a Vizio 32″ 3D tv last night. I already had an HDMI cable, so I used it to hook up the 3D Blu Ray player to the 3D tv. It appears to give a very nice 3D effect. However, I did buy the Vizio HDMI cable specifically for 3D televisions just in case mine didn’t work. Will I get a better effect using the “3D ready” HDMI cables, or do I just need to take it back?

To be honest all HDMI cables work about the same, so don’t waste your money on exspencive one when the cheapest ones you can get will work just the same.

Q&A: What is different about Blu-ray than regular DVD and why didn’t a blu-ray disk work in my DVD player?

Question by bellybelly2010: What is different about Blu-ray than regular DVD and why didn’t a blu-ray disk work in my DVD player?
Just wondering why the blu-ray disk didnt work in my dvd player?

Really?

Blu-ray is a completely different technology from DVDs.

Blu-ray takes a completely different laser than dvds.

Now, the Blu-ray laser is Backward compatible, meaning it can read the old DVDs, but the old DVD laser is not advanced enough to read Blu-Rays.

Don’t worry about it though.

Blu-rays will not be around for long.

Q&A: How does Blu-ray player upconverting work?

Question by Darkman: How does Blu-ray player upconverting work?
i saw a few Blu-ray players in the store today that said:

Upconverts DVDs to 1080p

Well, if I buy a blu-ray player and it upconverts my old dvds to 1080p, why would I every buy the higher priced blu-ray discs???

Do blu-ray discs go beyond 1080p???

man, sometimes this stuff is confusing.

Best answer:

Answer by Crouching Monkey Hidden Hippo
Native 1080p resolution is always better than upconverted. Also blue ray discs are capable of higher audio quality and more channels as well, which regular dvds aren’t even with a blue ray player.

How can you convert a downloaded movie from iTunes to a DVD to work in DVD players?

Question by Shawna(:: How can you convert a downloaded movie from iTunes to a DVD to work in DVD players?
I purchased a movie off iTunes for my iTouch, but i also tried to burn the movie onto a DVD disk. It does not work in any of my DVD players, and I am trying to find out how to properly convert the downloaded movie into a DVD that will work in my DVD players for the TV.

Best answer:

Answer by Donal
Movie from iTunes store has DRM copyright protection, you can only play it on your computer or Apple portable player. If you want to burn it to DVD to play on TV, you have to remove the DRM at first, and then convert and burn it to DVD. If you need detailed, I think this step by step guide would help you

Hope it helps. You can email me for further help.

Q&A: Will the new HDTVs still work with basic cable?

Question by shidhet: Will the new HDTVs still work with basic cable?
Do the new digital TVs still have an analog tuner for tuning basic cable, or would I need a cable box?

If the answer’s no, I have a VCR I could tune cable with. It only has a composite video output though. Is that good enough for standard definition cable or would a basic cable box have S-video or something, resulting in better picture quality?

Thanks for your time!

Best answer:

Answer by Ben
Many of the new digital TVs have digital QAM cable tuners built-in to them to pick-up basic digital cable channels.

As far as I know, most areas of North America have moved over to digital cable or are in the process of moving over (possibly offering both analog and digital services in parallel). So you should be able to pick-up the channels (even HD channels) with the digital QAM tuner in the TV if it has one.

If not, you can use the VCR to pick-up the analog channels. The coaxial and composite video outputs on the VCR will provide standard definition picture to the TV, but S-Video provides somewhat better quality when it is available.
